BaselHead is one of the great long-distance eights races, and attracts a high-quality international field. This is a pleasing development, and will transform the Rhine in Basel city centre into a sports arena with 10,000 spectators. In recent years the best crews in the world have competed in this event. In addition to great sporting interest, the event can count on considerable support from institutions and private partners. The private bank Mirabaud & Cie AG is on board in 2018 as an additional main partner. Nicolas Mirabaud, limited partner and executive committee member of the bank, emphasised: “For Mirabaud, which was founded in 1819 and present in Basel since 2004, it is an honour to be a supporting partner of this prestigious rowing regatta in the heart of the city on the Rhine.”
Unique “Mirabaud Classic” over 6.4 km
The “Mirabaud Classic” long-distance eights race will be held over a 6.4 km course, with a demanding 180° turn at the halfway point. The boats will start at short intervals from 14:00, and will be equipped with GPS transmitters. As the winners of last year’s event, the german national eight will have the honour of starting first, followed by crews from 10 nations. Registration for the ninth BaselHead on the 17th November commenced on the 1st July.
Prelude “Sprint des Rois“
The “warm-up” event is a sprint race over 350 m at 10:30. The winners of this race will have the privilege of staying at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois directly beside the regatta course for the duration of the event the following year. The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, the energy company Naturenergie, APG, and Mirabaud & Cie AG are the main partners of this major event. The regatta is also supported by the Swisslos sports funds of the cantons Basel City and Basel Country.
