Fireworks are allowed in both Basels on certain conditions

Fireworks at the national celebrations are allowed on certain conditions in the cantons Baselland and Basel-Stadt. Fireworks are allowed with a distance of at least 200 meters to forests and the edges of forests. There, making fire is still prohibited.

On Monday, the crisis committee Baselland, and the Basel Department of Justice and Security, reported that the rainfall of the last few days and the drop in temperature had defused the situation outside the forests. Therefore, the risk of forest fires will be reduced from “very big” (level 5) to “big” (level 4). If the minimum distance is obeyed, fireworks are allowed, but they should only be fired on solid, inflammable surfaces, such as gravel or blacktop parking lots. At the national celebrations, ‘Höhenfeuer’ (fires made of big logs) are allowed, but only with a minimum distance of 200 meters as well. The municipalities are free to tighten this regulation. Making fires in forests or near the edges of forests is still prohibited. This prohibition includes campfire sites and portable grills. In Basel-Stadt, open fire is permitted again outside the area of settlement.

The use of hot-air balloons and sky lanterns that use fire to fly is also still prohibited. It is still prohibited to take water out of Baselbieter bodies of water. These prohibitions have been active since 22 July. On 6 July, the cantonal crisis committee had already issued a ban on fire in forests and near the edges of forests. In a joint announcement, the border control corps in Basel and the police Baselland pointed out that the import of fireworks is only allowed up to 2.5 kilograms. It is prohibited to import fireworks that bang upon being thrown on the floor, “Lady-Crackers” that are longer than 22 millimeters, or “Knallteufel” that weigh more than 2.5 milligrams
