Suspected violation of official secrecy at BVB

Senior management of Basel Public Transport (BVB) are under investigation after a suspected leak of highly confidential information to the media.

The board of management of the BVB has condemned the allegedly unlawful indiscretion and has handed over a dossier from its internal investigation to the public prosecution. The internal investigation came after confidential documents from senior management were published by media in September last year.

The board of managers has said it is "not willing to put up with such grave misconduct and will take rigorous action". At a meeting on 19 September the BWB board hired external company, Nodon Consulting AG, to conduct a preliminary investigation. The outcome of the investigation has not been made public for reasons of confidentiality.

Suspected violation of secrecy at BVB

After having been confronted with new information which made its way to unrelated people despite its confidential status, the board of managers has now passed the results of the internal preliminary investigation to the public prosecution for further investigation. It is alleged that someone violated the confidentiality of the company.

The board of management at BVB is "dismayed" that once again confidential information has been released to the public. Like any company, BVB has to be able to rely on confidentiality when making decisions. A spokesperson for the board said that indiscretions "unsettled the employees and massively damaged the reputation of the company".

Public application of planning permission for Rosentalturm

The MCH Messe Schweiz (Basel) AG plans to erect a new high rise building on the site of the Messerplatz car park. The building will include apartments, a hotel, and service rooms with areas for public use on the ground floor. The legal building plan No. 182 from 2008 enables the firm to create the maximal number of parking spaces to 1448, which will be built underground.

The renovation of the car park was foreseen in the context of the concept of the new hall for the exhibition centre. After a test planning, the MCH concluded that a new building was preferable to renovation with the addition of new storey in the existing car park. A new planning application has been put together with the relevant alterations and is to be presented to the public.

Especially affected by the alterations was the maximum allowed height of the building (max. 110m). The maximal total floor space is limited to 48,000 square metres from which 50 per cent have to be used for dwelling purposes (an apartment and hotel). Additionally, at least 1000 square metres have to be set aside for public use.

The plans were enhanced in favour of a more lively area around the Messe and offer the chance to upgrade Rosentalanlage to a 'green' residential area.

With the replacement of the existing car park and the building of a new underground car park, the plans must pass an environmental impact assessment. The initial environmental report investigated the most relevant environmental impacts. An analysis investigated the impact of local traffic. In the total overall view the environmental report concludes that the project complies with the requirements of environmental laws.
