Video footage of robbery at petrol station in Pratteln released
The police have issued video footage in a bid to identify a man who committed an armed robbery at a petrol station in Pratteln on Friday night.
The robbery took place at the petrol station in Krummeneichstrasse at around 11pm. A man approached an employee at the garage and threatened her with a pistol, according to early investigations by the criminal prosecution office and Baselland police.
The robber demanded the 49-year-old staff member hand over cash from the till. The thief fled from the Migrolino petrol station with several hundred Swiss francs and ran off in an unknown direction.
Description of the offender
The suspect has white skin, is between 1.7 to 1.8 metres tall, from middle to stocky build, and between 40 and 50 years old. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black baseball cap, a black padded down jacket, and blue jeans. He had hidden his face with a scarf.
Video footage published
The unknown man was captured on a CCTV camera at the front of the petrol station before he committed the crime. Anyone who recognises this man, and also his way of walking, is asked to contact the Baselland police command centre on 061 553 35 35.
The police are offering a reward of up to 2,000 francs for clues which would lead to the positive identification of the robber.
Search for 54-year-old man who has been missing from Basel since July
The police have issued an appeal for information about a 54-year-old Basel man who has not been seen since 23rd July this year.
Birol Karanfil, who lives in Dornacherstrasse 275, was last seen on that date at seven in the morning at his home. He apparently had plans to travel to Turkey with a friend. He is described as being 160 to 170 centimetres tall and of middle stature. He has green eyes, was clean-shaven at the time of his disappearance, and had short grey/white hair. His left arm is slightly stiff. He was wearing a green top, shorts with purple flowers on them, and was carrying a black rucksack. He speaks broken Swiss German.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mr Karanfil is asked to contact the cantonal police of Basel-Stadt on 061 267 71 11. The police would especially like to hear from a driver who may have taken the missing man to Turkey.
Basel driver injured by falling tree in Germany
A 54-year-old Swiss man is in hospital with serious injuries after a tree fell on his car in Schliengen, Baden-Württemberg, during a storm.
The man was driving in the Schliengen area, around 30 kilometres north of Basel, when strong gusts of wind uprooted trees, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Police headquarters in Freiburg. One of the trees fell on the man's car, crushing its roof and trapping the man.
Despite being seriously injured, he was able to call the emergency services. A crew of fire fighters were able to free the man from the seriously damaged vehicle and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
