Breel Embolo is out of World Cup qualification round due to broken ankle 

Former FCB player Breel Embolo has experienced a severe setback in his football career. The Schalke 04 striker broke his left ankle in a Bundesliga match against Augsburg on Saturday, in a game that resulted in a 1:1 draw.

The 19-year-old sustained the injury in a foul by Augsburg player Konstantinos Stafylidis. After several minutes of receiving first aid, the Swiss International had to be carried off the field and was taken to the hospital with a bandaged foot.

Embolo had transferred from FC Basel to the 'royal blues' (Schalke 04) for a record 25 million Euros in the summer. Recently, he scored his first two Bundesliga goals against Borussia Mönchengladbach (result: 4:0 to Schalke 04).

The injury means the 19-year-old player will also miss the World Cup qualification round of the Swiss national team against the Faroe Islands on 13 November in Lucerne.

Police arrests man after sex crime in Freiburgerstrasse

A man has been arrested after a young woman was sexually assaulted in a public toilet in Freiburgerstrasse in Basel on Friday night.

According to current investigations by the criminal police of the public prosecution, the woman was on her way to the reception centre (EVZ) in Freiburgerstrasse along with two friends, when she was attacked.  The woman needed the toilet and went into a nearby public facility while her friends waited for her outside.

However, as she entered a cubicle, an exposed man suddenly followed her and locked the door behind him. The women defended herself against him and screamed for help. The attacker let go of her and fled the toilet block. Thanks to leads, the police arrested the perpetrator, a 28-year-old man, shortly afterwards in the EVZ.

Arrest after physical assault in Steinenvorstadt 

A 20-year-old man was stabbed with a knife in a violent confrontation with another man in Steinenvorstadt/Stänzlergasse on Saturday morning.

Current investigations by the criminal police of the public prosecution reveal that the 20-year-old got into an argument and then a fight with a 26-year-old.  During the fight, the 26-year-old got into a taxi with his girlfriend before emerging with a knife. He allegedly began stabbing the younger man before getting back into the taxi. The driver told him to get out but when several people began banging on the car, the driver fled the scene with the man and his girlfriend.  After dropping the couple off at their home, the taxi driver called the police. The suspected attacker later handed himself in to the police.

The 20-year-old had to be taken to the emergency department at the hospital by paramedics of Basel. He was not seriousy injured. The cause and circumstances surrounding the attack are still unclear and are the subject of ongoing investigations.

FC Basel wins effortlessly against Lucerne (3:0)

The Basel football players won convincingly in their first game after the national team break this Saturday. Thanks to goals by Seydou Doumbia, Michael Lang, and Mohamed Elyounoussi, they won 3:0 without any goals scored by Lucerne. Basel can therefore solidify its position at the top of the league and extend its lead against Lausanne-Sport.
