Scooter driver caught over the drink driving limit in Weil am Rhein

A drink driver was caught with a large amount of alcohol in his system when he was stopped by the police on Riedlistrasse.

Officers on patrol pulled over the scooter rider early on Thursday morning after noticing that the bike swerved and almostfell on a curve.

When the bike stopped, the officers saw that the 62-year-old rider could barely stand. Suspecting alcohol, they carried out a breath test which gave a high result of more than four per mille blood-alcohol content. The man also had to undergo a blood test.

The 62-year-old also had to hand over his driver’s license and is facing a charge of drunk driving.

Basel Experience Tour: the new city quiz by Basel Tourism is here

Basel Tourism is offering something special to savour summer once again: The new “Basel Experience Tour” is for everyone who would like to learn (even) more about Basel. Great entertainment as well as background information about the city is guaranteed.

Solving tricky questions and finding hidden places – this is what makes the new Basel Experience Tour unique. Discover secret corners, quiet alleys, and the special features of the city. What you’ll need is a sense of orientation and a knack for riddles. The game begins at the SBB train station. Led by clues written on cards, players enter an exploration journey through Basel’s inner city. The solutions of the various tasks show which card has to be read next. That way, players are led through Basel’s old town and receive exciting background information about local attractions at each station of their journey.

The total game time is up to three hours, but players decide for themselves when they start and how long they remain in one place. And of course, breaks are allowed at any moment – for example in a nice café. And if a solution cannot be found in the end, an “emergency card” will help. Participants can join the Experience Tour on their own, as groups of two or more. Two to four players per box are optimal.

The playing cards are packed in a handy box and fit into every bag and is the perfect gift idea for an upcoming birthday. The game costs 33 Swiss francs and is available as of today at both tourist information offices at the Bahnhof SBB or at the Stadtcasino. As of next week, it can also be ordered online.

Alleged crime tourist arrested

Swiss border guards arrested an alleged crime tourist during an inspection at the Basel-Kleinhüningen border crossing recently.

The guards stopped a car with Lithuanian number plates and became suspicious when the Lithuanian driver could not show a driver’s license as he was leaving Switzerland to enter France.

Through further investigation, the guards learned that the 32-year-old man does not possess any document allowing him to drive a car, the Border Guard Corps informed on Thursday.

An inspection of the vehicle revealed that the man had different musical instruments and wine bottles as well as cash in various currencies and commemorative medals in his possession. The border guards also found several objects that could be used for committing crimes. The man was handed over to the cantonal police of Basel-Stadt on the grounds of suspected criminal activity. The public prosecution of Basel has launched corresponding measures.
